Today Bethany graduated from High School

Flowers and cards for our graduate.
Special cousins with more flowers! (and a great gift too...)
Bethany's best sister.

Waiting in the line to start the processional.
Here she comes!

Part of BFA's class of 2008.

Each graduate is recognized individually with personal words compiled from dorm parents, RAs or teachers...
"Bethany, your teachers say you are kind about everything. You are compassionate to those around you. You believe the best in people and have the gift of putting others at ease.
You have been given the gift of music and we're thankful you shared it with us." Proverbs 16:20
It's a special moment for each graduate.
The class singing "All for Jesus".
Each grad is given a rose to deliver to their mom.
Now it's over, the tears flow and there are lots of hugs all around...

The reception for the grads and their families is held in the gym.More yearbook signing and then the grads are off for their cruise and dinner on the Rhein. It was a beautiful graduation ceremony and a very special day.

Look out!

As I was leaving the library for lunch and heading down the stairs, I heard a very LOUD cheer and then I was almost trampled as the grade 12s came thundering down having just finished their final high school exam. Lots of happy faces in that mix!

Ceremonial burning of the notes

Pretty much self-explanatory!

Last day - crazy day

The calm before...
...the storm.
As part of the "checking out" procedure, the students have to come to the library to make sure all their textbooks are turned in and fines paid. Then we can sign their forms and send them on to the next stage. Today was the day for that and it was CRAZY. Fortunately we all had our wits about us and actually had a good time putting those bodies through. However, at this moment I am feeling somewhat exhausted...

Beauties and the...bench

Bethany and her friend Christine made this nifty bench in their industrial arts class this semester. I know that Grandpa Dennis would have been very proud of his granddaughter's achievement. They worked hard using all the power tools necessary and did a great job. Don't you think?

It's warm

This is a picture of the clock in the library. As you can see, it's only 7:54 a.m. and it's already 26 degrees Celsius. However, once I opened up the windows and got the commercial fans going at high speed, it only took a few hours for the temperature to drop down to 25.6. Fortunately these last days of school have not been overly warm inside or out which has been nice for our library staff as we work hard returning and reshelving all the students' textbooks (and whatever else comes in during these hectic days). It has been a challenge to keep things cool and comfortable in our new library facility, but hopefully this summer overhead fans will be installed.

Grad Sunday

Yesterday was grad Sunday, a service in honour of our graduates. Each graduate is presented with a Bible from the church.
Friends, friends, friends...
These three have been together since grade 5, and two of them (Beth and Melissa) since grade 3.
Here they are again!

Senior tea

Yesterday afternoon three moms of grade 12 girls hosted a mother-daughter tea for all the grade 12 girls and their moms. As well as "real moms", dorm moms and other significant mother-figures came to accompany their "daughters".
One of the families in our community lives in an old factory, and that is where the tea was held. It was a lovely time.

Apfelschorle - apple juice with sparkling water. A German favourite and very thirst quenching.

Big and...not so big

These two young men wandered into the library this morning and I just had to take a picture of them together. They are both in grade 7 and I've known them since they were just little boys.

Out for a stroll

We came upon this stork yesterday as he (she?) was crossing the highway. Maybe "it" was tired of flying...
