Yesterday (May 15) was Kalte Sophie or The Cold Sophia. It was the last day of possible cold spring weather, and thus safe to plant gardens and set out flowers because there will be no more frost. At least, that's what they say! Sophia of Rome was a young woman martyred for her faith around 304 BC. Sophia was invoked as a patron saint against frosts that occurred late in the year and thus was called Kalte Sophie in Germany. She is considered to be one of the so-called Ice Saints.
These are just a few of the things I planted yesterday.

I think I've met some Ice Saints in my days. Hope the flowers do well. Love the pictures. Mike
