The bell is back

After the unearthing on Wednesday morning, the bell was transported to a city north of here to be polished, engraved and tuned. This morning, shortly after 11:00, it came back to town via horse and wagon. It was quite the sight. People lined the streets and clapped as it came by.

The grade one class designed the picture engraved on the bell, based on Psalm 23.

After the pastor gave a short word, the bell (all 358 kilos of it) was lifted off the trailer...

...and carefully placed on the front step of the church. Bethany and I did not wait for it to be hoisted up and hung in place. It will ring tomorrow morning for the first time at 9:35, just in time for the Thanksgiving service. How fun it was to be a part of this historic event in the life of our little town.

The bell pics are fascinating. Especially remembering our German friend telling us that Hitler had all but one bell removed in all the church bell towers to be melted down and used to make weapons in the war. I love your blog-brings back SO many memories.
