Camp

When we were kids, my parents owned a car much like this one, except that it was red with a white roof. No convertible for us. It was a Corvair. For those of you familiar with that name, you will remember it was identified with the name Ralph Nader who wrote the book, "Unsafe At Any Speed" - a book about this little Chevrolet phenomenon. It really was a great car, even if it did shake uncontrollably after going over the railroad tracks at the top of the Peace River hill! Because my dad was away at Summer School in Edmonton for 10 consecutive summers, it was my mother who drove us to camp - yes, in the Corvair. There were always lots of happy memories associated with those journeys, except for the year that my sister was learning to drive on the highway. We saw a LOT of the road on that trip as we weaved our way along to camp. I'm not sure how my mother's nerves managed that one!
Katy is just home from a week at "Teen Street", one of many such Operation Mobilization camps held around the world (and we're so glad she's home because we missed her like crazy!). Unlike our trips to camp in the Corvair, she took the train to and from camp which was held in northern Germany.
And unlike our camp of 50 or so, she and her friend Amanda were just two of 4000 wildly excited teens! There were kids from the countries of Ireland, England, France, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Egypt, Germany and the Czech Republic, to name a few!
This shows only a small portion of the auditorium where they met each day. It was a life-changing experience for our camper and one we're sure she'll not soon forget! If you're at all interested in reading and/or seeing more about "Teen Street", here's the website: http://germany.teenstreet.om.org
