Today's the day!

This is what I saw from our window when I got home from work this afternoon. Our neighbours have been busy, busy and today they will unveil what they've been working on this year. Of course I will keep you posted (that's actually a very good pun for a blog!).
And so promptly at 5:30 the program began. First we sang some German carols... ...for which they provided the song sheets.
Then they read the story of the "Herrnhuter" Star. The German and Czech Brethren, under the leadership of Count Zinzendorff, greatly influenced the world through their missionary movement. Their children were educated in MK schools in Germany. One of their projects was making and selling these special 25 point stars to support their school and the missionary movement, and as a light to the nations.

Then it was time for the unveiling! The banner reads - "The Herrn Huter Star - A bridge between all people".

More singing - this time with the accordian AND the guitar.

Afterwards we all got some hot punch, freshly baked Christmas cookies and these lovely stars which they had made themselves. There were about 50 people on the street enjoying this special moment with these amazing people. We also enjoyed visiting with some neighbourhood people.

I like the paper stars a lot. Is there a template for the 25 or 8 pointed stars? Thank your neighbors for me for giving this display to such wide viewing.

Wow! How fun! Sometimes I think. "Only in Kandern, only in Kandern..."
