Schwarzwald Series

Today Howard and I took a long-anticipated day trip to the northern Schwarzwald - Black Forest. In the next few days I will be posting several pictures from our trip.
I thought I would start with something we found to be quite funny yet extremely delightful. As you know, we are in the middle (or nearing the end!) of Carnival or Fasching season here in Germany. Lots of towns and cities have parades - Kandern's is tomorrow, in fact. We had stopped in a small town for lunch and were told that the parade would be coming through at 2:00 so it wouldn't be a good idea to park on the street. What we weren't told was that there wouldn't be a problem with being delayed in our parking spot for any significant amount of time because of the parade.
First came the parade marshalls who were dressed in their finest.
Next came the bakers, single file, who were drumming up a storm. There were several different rhythms going at one time I noticed!

Then along came, again single file, ladies (and some men) dressed in their finest period costumes.
Then another row of single file drummers...
More women...(we figured there were at least a 100 of them in all!)...

One more batch of drumming bakers....(notice Howard leaving the parade as the end is in sight!)...
And some more parade marshalls. Elapsed time: about 10 minutes! Fastest Fasching parade on record and NO confetti spewn about. Very clean and very much to the point!

Hey Guys...we heard from Tony Olson that a group was coming. The Torchbearer's in Dehradun is only about a 40 minute taxi ride from our house. We'll definitely have to have Howard, et al over for some good Indian food. Keep us in the loop about your plans. Have a fantastic day.

I posted a comment on your blog awhile back with this news but I guess you didn't see it. Yes, I'll let them know about your offer!
