Dr. John McCrae

This is the first-aid bunker where John McCrae was working when he wrote the world-renowned poem, "In Flanders Fields". The bunker is located at "Essex Farm" just a few kilometres north of Ipres in Belgium. The poem is said to have been written during a lull in the bombings on May 3, 1915, after he witnessed the death of his friend.
His poem in brass.
Not sure what this sign really means, but it marked the spot so I took a picture!

Hi! My name is Janet. said...

I just bought the Peanuts video "What have we learned Charlie Brown?" about WWII on VHS (no DVDs out there). Have you ever seen it? I remember it from when I was little. Linus talks about D-Day, etc. and recites that poem. If I remember correctly.
